"Wonder Twin powers, activate!"I am dating myself here but if you get this reference you watched this Superhero cartoon in the '70's like Jason and I did. The girls started doing this on their own so all we have to do now is say, "Wonder twin powers, activate" and there you go!
Callia & Maia have been spending more and more time playing together and it warms my heart. You can often find them near each other playing with different toys or playing games together like peek-a-boo or rolling on the floor and laughing. There is hope that I may actually get to start making dinner on a regular basis once they do this more often but in the meantime, I appreciate the Whole Foods prepared section and Morningstar products! The girls have become rather selective about their meals and one minute they like something and the next it's "neh, neh". Luckily, they mostly still eat their fruit and vegetables so at least they are getting some nutrition. It has been challenging making sure they get enough protein since they have become pickier but I have found if you put melted cheese or sprinkle parmesan cheese on something they will likely eat it...unless it's fish. They won't touch that with a 10 foot pole. I was starting to run out of breakfast ideas when Maia decided she likes to eat my cereal with milk. Now she and Callia love to feed themselves their cereal with milk and most of it gets into their mouths!
The major news this month is the abundance of language that the girls are acquiring! They repeat or attempt to repeat just about everything and are so proud to be talking. We are still waiting for the first time they string 2 words together but they are busy learning to say one word at a time right now which include: "turtle", "bubble", "Go", "More", etc. Callie has fallen hard for Grover (used to be Elmo) and calls him "Go Go". We have this video called "Dance Along" where he dances to the "Alphabet Song" and her two loves are combined. She is still a very loving, sweet, happy little girl who gives the best hugs! She has also started becoming more independent and with that come some temper tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants. Usually it is over wanting to watch her beloved "Go Go" since Mommy does not usually let her watch that more than once per day.
Maia is taking on the acquisition of language with full force. She repeats most everything and knows the difference between saying the word and signing it. She would use the sign for "more" quite often but now she can say the word! I think she has become a happier little person since she has started talking because boy does she want to communicate what she is thinking. Maia is still very animated and makes me laugh all the time. She and Callia like to try on jewelry and then look at themselves in the mirror (see sunglasses picture below). I haven't been able to get that many decent pictures of them lately since they are too busy to look up at the camera!
We are keeping very busy this Winter with so many activities! On Mondays we do Itsy Bitsy Yoga and it is so much fun! The girls can do several poses and their favorite is "Toes to Nose". They also like singing the "Yogi Yogi" (like the Hokey Pokey). On Tuesdays our babysitter comes to give Mommy some time to catch my breath and get some things done! They have so much fun with Jenna and often have some new fun trick they learned from her. On Wednesdays, we have Early Intervention for Callia (she gets services for her hearing loss) and on Thursday we have our fabulous Mommy & Me class at Isis Maternity. Then on Friday, Jenna our babysitter comes again giving Mommy another much needed break for a few hours. In between all of that, we have been going to Kidspace (which is a giant parent-volunteer play space for the Winter months), doing art projects and bundling up for a walk up to the nursery school around the corner to peek at the Snowpeople in the window that some kids made. We are still waiting for it to snow so we can build a Snowman as Callia and Maia LOVE all things snowman!
